Living with HIV
A positive HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) test does not mean you have AIDSThe most serious stage of HIV infection. AIDS results from the destruction of the infected person's immune system. – it’s definitely not a death sentence. Today, many HIV+ individuals are living long and fulfilling lives.
The key is getting effective treatment. With treatment, there is hope because HIV is a manageable diagnosis. Without treatment, HIV can damage your immune systemThe body's defense system. The immune system’s cells fight off infection and other diseases. If your immune system does not work well, you are at risk for serious and life-threatening infections and diseases. HIV attacks and destroys the disease-fighting cells of the immune system, leaving the body with a weakened defense. and lead to AIDS.
